INTRODUCTION
As part of our B.Ed third Semester curriculum, we have to organise a field study or conscientization program for the school students. dwing our teaching practice period based on a selected theme. For the same, I selected the issue of drug abuse and alcoholism. The sole of education in shaping society is undeniable In this context, conscuntisation plays a vital role in helping students to become aware about theu social environment conscientization is a term popularized by Brazilian educator Paulo Forere, refus to the process of developing a cutical awareness of one's social reality. By raising awareness about social issues Students are empowered to take an active sole in their communities. This field study, when effectively implemented by B.Ed teachers, have the potential to transform educational experiences of students.
CONSCIENTIZATION
The term Conscientization was popularized by the Brazilian educator Paulo Friese, refers to the process of developing a cutical awareness of one's social reality through reflection and action. This involves fostering a cutical unders tanding of social injustices, ineqcialities and the Socio-political dynamics that influence everyday life. Through this process, individuals are encouraged to question and challenge the situations that are oppressing, leading to an active participation on social change. In a school setting, conscientization programs can help students recognize and address issues such as drug abuse, alcoholism, gender inequality, discumination, environmental degradation and other forms of social injustice conscientization plays a vital role in helping students to become aware of their social, cultural and political environments.
DRUG ABUSE AND ALCOHOLISM
Drug abuse and alcoholism are emerging as Significant public health challenges worldwide, particularly among adolescents School students due to their developmental stage, curiosity and vulnerability to pees pressure, are increasingly at risk of engaging in substance abuse students from dysfunctional families or those facing parental neglect, domestic veolence or substance abuse wetten the family are at a higher risk of turning to drugs and alcohol Media portrayals of drug and alcohol use as a way of espaping froms the problems can also influence students to engage in these beharcours. A significant number of students lack adequate knowledge about the dangers of drug abuse and alcoholism Misconceptions and a lack of proper education on the subject can lead to uninformed decisions.
OBJECTIVES
- To educate students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and alcohol on physical, mental and social health.
- To equip students with knowledge and strategies to resut peer pressure and avoid engaging is substance abuse
- To provide information about the long-term Consequences of dung and alcohol abuse, including addiction, legal issues and its impact on future opportunities
- To promote the importance of personal responsibility in making healthy choccés and the role of self-care or preventing the Substance abuse
NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE
School students are increasingly exposed to substances like drugs and alcohol due to various factors including peer pressure, curiosity, stress and the influence of media. Adolescents are at a cutical stage of development, making them more susceptible to experimenting with these substances. A conscientisation program can help students recognize these risks and empower them to make informed decisions. Creating an environment where students feel safe to discuss issives related to drug and alcohol use is crucial. A conscentisation program can help build this environment by promoting open communication, reducing Stigma and encourging the students to help if they or someone they know is struggling with substance use such programs net only inform students about dangers of drugs and alcohol but also equip with resistance strategies.
PROGRAMME REPORT
The awareness programme as part of the field study was organized on the topic "Daug abuse and alcoholism? The participants of this programme was students of VIII A dass of Government Higher Secondary School, Puttoor. This programme was conducted by me along with Surya Prakash, Student - teaches from Social Science department. This program was Conducted by us together. The instructional and which are used for this program was a power point presentation which was duplayed on the screen asing projector. The program Started by introducing the topic by showing certain images of damaged body organs due to the use of drugs and alcohol, to sensitize the students the topic. Responses are elicited about the pictures by asking some questims and students shared their opinion about the picture. This helped to identify the student's pror knowledge about the topic Before going es detail, their level of undustanding about the topic was tested. This programme started by defining what actually the drugs are and explained about the reasons behind the use of drugs among adolescents
REALITY CANVAS
Reality Canvas was a session that encouraged the students to share their experiences, discuss their concerns, reveal their misconception about the substance abuse. we have arranged a separate session called "Open Mind, Let's hear you" for the students to share this life experience about their bad luck or disappointment they got from drug alcohol abusers if any. The major intention of this session was to make the students relate better to their peers. Hearing real stories from fellow students can be more impactful than receiving information from adults or experts. This session was vey useful as the students shared their experiences and discussed their concerns regarding substance abuse. This also helped them to know about real dangers and also the risks involved.
OATH TAKING
Taking an anti-drugs pledge helps students to become more aware of the dangers that are associated with drug use It encourages them to learn about the negative impact drugs and alcohol can have on their lift. So we made the students to take a pledge to not use drugs and alcohol.
PLEDGE
"we realize that drug abuse is increasing in our country, especially among youth we pledge that we will cooperate in stopping drug abuse we promise that we will not consume any harmful or illegal drugs for any purpose. will create awareness about the ill effects of drug abuse by encouraging every person, especially the youth so that youth of India can live drug-thee and they can become creative and important members of Society Today we pledge that we will stay away from drugs and live a healthy life."
WINDING UP SESSION
The programme was concluded by Summarizing the key points, reinforcing the message, and encouraging ongoing action. we also advised students to share the knowledge received from this programme to family members, friends and others.The awareness programme was a successful one as the students actively participated is the programme. The topic of the conscientization was appropriate for the audience since they could relate themselves with the content.
CONCLUSION
The role of education in shaping society is very important. In this context, conscientization plays a vital role in helping students become aware of their social environment- to Teachers should be a role model of their students, and their active participation in such programmes can inspire students to engage critically with their surroundings conscientization encourages the students to think critically about societal norms, values, and enables to develop critical thinking in them to become responsible citizens.
